Frequency Specific Microcurrent

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM) is the physical application of very low current to the body. Specific frequencies will find resonance in certain tissues and create beneficial changes in those tissues. Every chemical bond has a resonant frequency, and in the human body that means every tissue type, such as muscle, nerve, bone, and even the organs. A great example of resonance is the operatic singer who shatters a wine glass by singing at exactly the right pitch. When we apply FSM to the body, we are looking for that exact pitch or frequency to ‘shatter’ pathological inflammation and adhesions to restore physiologic function and movement.

Microcurrent is sub-sensory, which means it cannot be felt. For perspective, the amperage of microcurrent is millionths smaller than milliamps current, which is widely used in other electrotherapies such as TENS, which cause muscles to contract and can be felt as buzzing or pulsing. Microcurrent is the same level of current that the body itself produces in its own cells and tissues. Some people report sensations of warmth, relaxation and euphoria during treatment.

Biological tissue is comprised of atoms and molecules that determine physical structure and physiologic function. Every cell and membrane has an electrical potential that allows for the flow or movement of current. The body is a semi-conductor because of these potentials, which is how FSM travels through tissue.

The application of microcurrent alone can create positive effects, with the most dramatic effects occurring when specific frequencies are applied - hence ‘Frequency Specific Microcurrent’. Frequencies are delivered in pairs in order to neutralize a condition in a specific tissue, for instance muscle inflammation. FSM can be a primary treatment in musculoskeletal injuries and an adjuvant to many conditions. It has proven efficacy in the treatment of myofascial pain, fibromyalgia, sports injuries, concussions and many other health problems.

In order for FSM to be effective, hydration is essential. Patients need to drink 1-2 quarts of water in the 2-4 hours prior to treatment.
